BAKLAVA
Maggie makes this Baklava and gives it as gifts for the Holidays, everyone loves it.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 Pound FILLO Dough
- 2 1/2 tsp. cinammon
- a pinch of nutmeg
- 2lbs walnuts or other nuts
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1 lb unsalted butter meltedSYRUP
- 1 1/2 CUPS SUGAR
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2/3 cups honey
- 1/2 lemon sliced DIRECTIONS
Grind up the nuts and add the cinammon, nutmeng, sugar together
Brush cookie sheet with butter
Add 1 sheet of fillo dough and brush with butter
Add another sheet of fillo dough, brush with butter.
Do this five times until you have five sheets of fillo dough down.
On the fifth sheet sprinkle ground nut mixture
Add another sheet of fillo dough then brush with butter add more nut mixture
Alternate l sheet fillo dough, butter and sprinkle with nuts.
Do this about seven times.
Than add just fillo dough and butter five times for the top like you did the bottom.
Cut into diamonds shapes and poor extra butter over baklava.
Stud with cloves and cook 1 hour or 1 1/2 hours at 300 until golden brown.
DIRECTIONS : The syrup
Boil sugar and water 7 minutes
Remove from heat
Add honey and lemon
Cool
Remove lemon
Drizzle over baked baklava.
