Award Winning Grandma’s Christmas Cookies by Gary

Ingredients
- 1 cup shortnening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3 cups self-rising flour
- 2 cups candied cherries, chopped
- 1 cup candied pineapple, chopped
- 1 8-oz pkg chopped dates
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- 3 eggs, beaten
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
- Cream sugar and shortening.
- Add eggs.
- In separate bowl, combine all but 1/2 cup flour and spices. Set aside 1/2 cup flour to dredge.
- Dredge fruit and nuts in 1/2 cup flour and set aside.
- Add flour/spice mixture to sugar mixture.
- Blend well.
- Add fruit and nut mixture.
- Stir until well combined.
- Form into balls and set on cookie sheets two inches apart.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Cool on racks.
